Project Innovative fertigation technology in fruit and vine plantations specific to arid and dry sub-humid climate is a subproject of the Complex Project Innovative technologies for irrigation of agricultural crops in arid, semi-arid and dry sub-humid climate SMARTIRRIG, Project ID: PN-III-P1-1.2-PCCDI-2017-0254, Contract No. 27PCCDI/2018. It is Project 5 within the Common Agenda of SMARTIRRIG.

Detailed information about SMARTIRRIG is available on the project website: http://www.inma.ro/complexe/smartirrig.htm.

A short description of the project

The main objective of the project Innovative fertigation technology in fruit and vine plantations specific to arid and dry sub-humid climate is to implement the modern concept of fertigation for horticultural crops (fruit and vine plantations) in arid areas, in line with the National Strategy for Sustainable Development of Romania Horizons 2013-2020-2030, on anticipating the effects of climate change and early development of action plans for crisis situations caused by natural or anthropogenic phenomena.

The project purpose is that based on the professional experience of the project team to develop a high-performance fertigation equipment, with market potential, at the level of world-class achievements, adapted to the irrigation methods, techniques and systems used in arid areas.

The equipment will be designed to work in aggregate with the fixed and mobile drip irrigation systems and the underground irrigation system that will be developed under this Complex Project.
The injection device, which is the main component of the system, will be of type differential piston and mechanical-hydraulic control hydraulic amplifier, able of operating in the range of pressures specific to drip irrigation and underground irrigation systems, for a wide range of primary solution concentrations. Mixing of primary solution and irrigation water used as a driving fluid (which represents the fertilizing solution) will take place right in the body of the injection device; thus, irrigation water loss outside the systemis totally avoided.
The fertigation equipment can be located in any spatial point of the irrigation facility, since the injection device uses irrigation water in the system as the working fluid.
